Adult Education Teacher

This open competitive advertisement is for a Career Service position located at North West Florida Reception Center in the Education department. This position is for an Adult Basic Education/GED® Instructor responsible for delivery of instruction in Math/Science, Reading-Language Arts and Social Studies through a blended instructional model.

The purpose of the Bureau of Education at the Florida Department of Corrections is to provide comprehensive educational programs and services to inmates. Their goal is to enhance inmates' academic, vocational, and life skills, thereby promoting personal development and successful reintegration into society. By offering quality education and training, they aim to reduce recidivism and support inmates in becoming productive, law-abiding citizens.

This position is not a telework position and is required to report to the FDC office in the area it serves.

Job Duties:

• Plan, develop, and conduct classes in assigned subjects, utilizing various teaching techniques to assist student advancement.
• Supervise inmates in the class, conduct roll calls, counts, and maintain attendance records.
• Ensure order and discipline in the classroom, continually evaluate student progress, and administer grades and tests.
• Counsel and advise individuals on program progress, behavior, or personal concerns.
• Participate in staff meetings, seminars, and workshops for curriculum changes and professional development, and assist in budget preparation and purchase requests for the education program.

Requirements:

• A bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited college/university; and
• Possess or be eligible to apply for a State of Florida Educator's Certificate.

Special Note: Non-certified applicants must obtain a temporary State of Florida Educator's Certificate within 12 months of hire. State of Florida Educator's Professional Certificate must be obtained prior to the expiration of Temporary Certificate.
